Our 10 Interns for the summer!

We said this in the last blog, but wanted to say it again. This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever made. This year was so difficult, like so many years, because everyone worked really hard, participated with other students during the classes, and everyone seemed to really want the internship! Thanks to all for working so hard and showing how much you learned. We hope you never forget these training classes and that this experience will help you in the future! Here are the students we have chosen to become paid summer interns this year and what schools they represent:

Alexis Benton – Academic Magnet High School
Jax Boucher – Academic Magnet High School
Katri Heitman – School of the Arts
Haven Horlback – Hanahan High School
Josh Leutz – Academic Magnet High School
Jennyfer Lucas – Hanahan High School
Jesslyn Park – Academic Magnet High School
Kaleigh Sandness – Hanahan High School
Haley Sellers – Summerville High School
Alexis Williamson – Goose Creek High School
CONGRATULATIONS and we'll see you soon!

Crabbing, last class and our top 10 High School Interns for the summer!

Hey everyone! Sorry this blog will encompass the whole last month, but a lot has been happening! Our last class, second interviews, choosing our top 10 interns and getting ready for our first summer training class!
The April class was a lot of fun! We started off the day with animal and plant interpretive presentations throughout the Aquarium. Then we worked on interview skills to get everyone ready for their last interviews. Then we headed out to the salt marsh! Both classes were able to catch some crabs and other animals out at the Pitt Street Bridge in Mount Pleasant. After reading all about a salt marsh habitat, we were able to spend time in one and were able to see dolphins, different types of birds and crabs. The intern trainees learned how to distinguish male blue crabs from female blue crabs, how to identify various species of marsh birds and some relished eating sea lettuce! Back at the aquarium, we participated in the last Jeopardy, completed the post-tests (which everyone improved upon), and scheduled 2nd interviews.

Everyone did so well in their second interviews and took everything that they learned from the last training class and brought in their revised resumes and cover letters. After…we had to make an extremely tough decision: picking the ten students to become paid summer interns. We want to say that this was one of the hardest decisions we have ever made. This year was so difficult because everyone worked really hard, participated in the classes, and wanted this internship! Thanks to all for working so hard and showing how much you have learned. We hope you never forget these training classes and that this experience will help you in the future! (Pics below...)
