How Jesslyn feels about husbandry...

Husbandry duties were actually one of the tasks I was most excited for when granted the internship. I am no exception to the strange infatuation us humans have to feeding animals/watching them eat. Besides feeding animals (so far we are just feeding the birds in the salt marsh exhibit), sunning the sea turtles and cleaning the rooftop reptile bins are our other duties. Both require a lot of physical work, but it is always fulfilling doing things that will improve the quality of life for the animals. Husbandry duties also instill teamwork, which I also very much enjoy. The other interns are really fun to work with, and we all share the goal of caring for the animals to the best of our abilities. Overall, husbandry duties are exciting opportunities that I really look forward to continuing. How often does one get to hold young sea turtles or grow confidence in moving multiple alligators with one’s own bare hands? Finally, there is a place where I won’t look like a silly tourist and be frowned upon when throwing food at pelicans and seagulls.
