Tyler's First Week!

My first week was fantastic. I met so many new people and did things that I never had. All the volunteers and staff members are so nice and helpful that you never have to feel hesitant to ask for help. Working at the Aquarium is pretty much the ideal job since I come to work every day and never feel like I’m working. My favorite thing to do is the sea turtle cart where I take on my persona as “Tyler the Turtle”. The interaction with the little kids is priceless and sometimes they can even teach you a few things. Over the past week I have learned so many new things in addition to what I have been taught. Hopefully in the upcoming weeks I will become an expert of just about all the exhibits!

Summer's First Week!

My first week as a high school intern has been awesome! I love this job very much. It is so great informing others about South Carolina and its various regions and species. I have enjoyed every moment of the Trading Post. It is a joy to come to work every day that I am schedule. I am actually sad that I don’t work every day! It kind of stinks that this job is so great because the next one will never compare. It makes me so happy to put a smile on people’s faces as they learn about animals. My first week was the one of the best weeks of my life! No exaggerations! I truly love this job!

Shelby's First Week!

My first week as a high school intern has been amazing. It’s a lot of fun. It’s not anything like I had expected. The visitors we have are a thrill to have here with us! My favorite exhibit has got to be by far the Coastal Plain. I love alligators and I just find Alabaster the most exotic and interesting animal here. I’d still like to do the animal programs with the alligators rather than snakes. There’s just something about them that I can’t get used to. However, that’s my goal that by the end of the summer I can play with them just like the gator. Until then, it’s all about the gators. In my opinion this has to be the best summer job ever! J

Kyri's First Week!

This internship has definitely been an eye-opening experience…and I’ve only just finished my first week! Not only have I taken in a vast amount of knowledge, but I’ve grown more comfortable and become more confident with my handling my daily responsibilities. I (with the help of Kate and Drew) was able to take Orville the corn snake on the floor, and also handle some of the bigger, more intimidating snakes as well. During a schedule sea turtle cart program, Drew educated myself and a few other interns on how to draw a crowd’s attention…this involved me wearing the sea turtle costume and getting swarmed by little kids. But, as embarrassing as I thought it would be, I LOVED every minute of it and cannot wait to do it again.

Being able to stay in motion and doing something different every 30 minutes is great! I am still getting used to the routine, but the journey is going fantastic! J Until next time,

Jassmine's First Week!

First week??? It doesn’t feel like it’s been a week already. Time flies when you’re having fun! I’ve meet so many great people, and I’ve learned from each one. This is such a great experience and I’m so thankful for being a part of it. I’m very excited for the rest of the summer, and all the fun opportunities it will bring. Being a High School Intern at the South Carolina Aquarium is seriously the highlight of my year. Each morning I wake up, and just to say that I’m getting ready for work doesn’t feel right. It’s something that I enjoy so much that it’s not categorized as work for me. Every single day I’m learning something new from the other interns, volunteers, staff members and even guests. I’m doing stuff that I haven’t ever thought I would be doing in my life; handling animals, speaking to so many people and just seeing all these smiles every day. It makes it all worthwhile. A whole summer doing this??? Bring it on!

Emoni's First Week!

My first week as an intern was awesome! It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would’ve been. Because of all the training courses, I believe it gave all of us the confidence that we needed to get on the floor and interact with guest and staff members, at the SC Aquarium, such as volunteers, interns and many other great people. Every day I came in, it wasn’t work, it was more like a fun learning experience! And for every day that I came in, I didn’t see it as being a job, it’s something ten times better than that. Overall my first week was phenomenal. Where else can you meet smiling guests, animasl with personalities, cool staff members and ice cold Kate and Drew?! I am anxious to see what the next 7 weeks will be like. I just know every day will be even better than the last!

Destin's First Week!

This past week was my first week as a high school intern at the Aquarium and all I can say is this is the best summer job ever. I love working with people, and the Aquarium is the perfect place for that. I’ve never been asked so many questions in my life! I’m blown away by the young kids’ eagerness to learn. They look up to you for answers when you’re wearing the blue shirt and it encourages you to learn even more. I’ve learned so much in just a short week, and I can’t imagine what I’ll know at the end of the summer. Already I’ve learned so much about sharks and turtles, and I even conquered my fear of snakes.

Job isn’t the right word for what I’m doing; a job isn’t supposed to be this much fun. I can already tell you that this internship is helping me become a more well-rounded person. I’ll keep you updated as the weeks go by.

Sincerely, Destin

Carles' First Week!

My first week as an intern has been amazing. I feel like I've accomplished so much and this is only week one. This internship is actually how I imagined it to be. I leave work every day with a smile and antipcipate the next day I'm scheduled to work. As the first week passed, I've grown fonder of alligators and snakes; they're so adorable! Every day is like a journey and I can't wait to see what the next seven weeks brings me! :)

April's First Week!

My first week at the Aquarium has been awesome! Since I am the only one from out of town, it has been hectic, yet exciting. I have gotten so much closer with the other interns that I work with, and the other staff members and volunteers. Every day at the Aquarium I learn so much more from the volunteers and staff members. I'm getting more comfortable with holding snakes, but I'm still not comfortable with the alligators! I'm not sure if I ever will be.

Working at the Aquaruim is the coolest job ever! I will definitely be volunteering here if I go to College of Charleston!
Love, April :)

Alex's First Week!

I learned a lot my first week here at the Aquarium. The first day was really fun even though I was nervous about interacting with the guests. Thankfully Drew and Kate were around to help get me through the day. Also I was able to look to the volunteers and other interns for support. I really enjoy walking around with the snakes and alligators during animal programs. My favorite snake to handle would have to be either Orville the corn snake or Monty the Ball python because they tend to be really relaxed and easy to handle.

My favorite exhibit so far would have to be the lower GOT because there is just so much to talk about and it is very relaxing. Anyway my first week was really exciting and I hope the rest of the summer is going to be as fun as the first week.

P.S. I have yet to wear the turtle costume and plan on doing that soon. -Alex <*)))><{
